India is a land of diverse art forms; each of them unique in itself. Sinjini (a dance group run by three eminent dance teachers and performers running their own dance schools in Perth) brings the Indian classical dance forms - Kathak, Odissi and Kuchipudi - onto one platform through ‘Shivoham’, an experience of Shiva, the sublime, and the god of dance. In Indian mythology, Shiva is the ultimate cosmic dancer whose dance represents the infinite rhythm of the universe.
Sinjini comprises Sumita Dutta of the Tarana School of Kathak, who has worked in the Hummingbird project with Dawn Jackson, an award-winning choreographer; Sindhusmita Chauhan, an Odissi dancer, founder of Mahari School, and a recipient of many awards; and Dr Sonia Nair of Abhinaya School who has a doctorate in performing arts from WAAPA, ECU and is a recipient of the prestigious Non-Resident Indian of the Year Award for Arts & Culture given by Times Now TV in 2016.
